Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how PokiesFindr handles information when you use the PokiesFindr mobile app or website. PokiesFindr is an independent app based in Australia.

PokiesFindr is a directory of poker machine ("pokies") venues in Australia. The app does not facilitate, enable, or process gambling of any kind. It is an information and discovery tool only.

We've designed PokiesFindr to collect as little information as possible. This policy explains exactly what that means in plain English.

1. What we collect

Location (when you choose to use it). When you tap "find venues near me" or a similar feature, the app asks your device for your current location and uses it to show nearby venues on the map. Your location is processed on your device. We do not store your location on our servers, and we do not track your location over time. You can deny location access in your device settings and the app will still work — you'll just have to search by suburb or postcode manually.

Anonymous usage analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how many people use the app, which features are popular, and the general geographic regions where the app is used. GA4 collects technical information such as device type, operating system version, approximate geographic region (derived from IP address but not stored), and the screens you visit within the app. GA4 does not log or store IP addresses, and we have disabled cross-device tracking via Google signals. This data is aggregated and anonymous — we cannot identify you individually from it. Google's own privacy practices apply to the data they process; see Google's privacy policy.

User-submitted venue or machine information. If you choose to submit information about a venue or a pokies machine (for example, adding a missing venue or correcting details), the content you type is saved to our database so it can appear in the app for other users. We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information when you submit. Submissions are anonymous unless you voluntarily include identifying details in the free-text fields — please don't.

2. What we do NOT collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to:

• Your name, email address, phone number, or any account information (there are no user accounts in PokiesFindr)
• Your contacts, photos, microphone, or camera
• Your gambling activity, spending, or behaviour at any venue
• Persistent identifiers that link your activity across sessions
• Payment or financial information (the app is free and contains no purchases)
• Health, biometric, or sensitive personal information

3. How we use what we collect

The limited information we collect is used only to:

• Show you nearby venues on the map (location)
• Understand how the app is used so we can improve it (analytics)
• Display user-submitted venue information to other users (submissions)

We do not sell, rent, or share any data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We do not use your data to build a profile about you.

4. Where your data goes

Your device's location does not leave your device — it's used locally to query our public venue database.

Google Analytics processes data on servers operated by Google LLC, which may be located outside Australia (including in the United States). By using the app, you consent to this overseas transfer. Google is bound by its own privacy commitments and applicable data protection laws.

User-submitted venue information is stored on our backend infrastructure (currently Railway for the backend service and MongoDB Atlas for the database, with our website hosted on Vercel), which may be hosted on servers located outside Australia.

5. Children

PokiesFindr is rated 17+ in the App Store and is intended only for adults of legal gambling age in Australia (18+). The app is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under 18.

6. Your rights under Australian privacy law

PokiesFindr complies with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

Because we don't collect personal information that could identify you, there's generally nothing for us to "look up" about you on request. However, if you've submitted venue content and want it removed, or if you have any privacy concern, contact us using the details below and we'll respond within a reasonable timeframe (usually within 30 days).

You also have the right to make a complaint about how we handle privacy to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

7. Cookies and tracking technologies

The PokiesFindr website may use minimal cookies for basic functionality (such as remembering whether you've dismissed a banner). The mobile app does not use cookies. We do not use tracking pixels, advertising IDs (IDFA), or cross-site trackers.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Our backend is protected by industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, access controls, and routine software updates. However, no internet-based service is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for material changes, we'll post a notice in the app. Continued use of PokiesFindr after a change means you accept the updated policy.
